PREFACE. THE progress of Shakespearean scholarship, and the changed conditions of Shakespearean study in schools and colleges, . have rendered it necessary that the publishers should replace the edition of Julius Cæsar edited for them some years ago by the late Professor Meiklejohn by an edition. fully abreast of the scholarship and requirements of the times. With this purpose in view, entirely new introductory matter has been provided, and while some use has been made of the annotations of the genial and brilliant Professor, these have been carefully revised and expanded so as to bring out more clearly the meaning of the author and the spirit of the play, as well as to train the student in the right understanding and appreciation of Shakespeare's English. 127463 |
