That which is here offered as an attempt to give a profitable direction to the present occupation of thought with Romanism, was originally a part of a course of teaching from the Twenty-third PsalmPart I. and Part II. being originally two consecutive discourses of that course. This is mentioned in explanation of forms of expression, as well as of a general character in the treatment of the subject, for which the title-page may not prepare the reader, but to change which did not seem to promise any real advantage.
