The Epistle, Gradual, and Alleluia, or Tract being read, remove the Missal to the right hand of the altar, making a reverence as you pass before the middle of the altar. Let the clerk ever kneel or stand on the contrary side to the Missal, Pr. Dominus vobiscum. Pr. Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum, &c. Cl. Gloria tibi, Domine. Make a reverence at the beginning and ending of the Gospel, and at the name of JESUS, and at the end say, Cl. Laus tibi, Christe. Here the clerk is to give wine and water, and prepare the basin, water, and towel for the Priest. The Priest having washed his fingers, let him kneel in his former place, and answer, Pr. Orate Fratres, &c. Cl. Suscipiat Dominus sacrificium de manibus tuis ad laudem & gloriam nominis sui, ad utilitatem quoque nostram, totiusque ecclesia sue sanctam. Pr. Per omnia secula seculorum. C. At Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, &c., ring the bell And again, when you see the Priest spread his hands over the chalice, give warning by the bell of the consecration, which is about to be made. Then, holding up the vestment with your left hand, and having the bell in your right, ring during the elevation of the Host; which being ended, you must kiss the vestment; and presently do the same at the elevation of the chalice. The Priest's communion being ended, be ready to give first wine, and then wine and water (but if there be communicants, first provide them a towel, and say the Confiteor). Gloria tibi, Domine, At the end, say, Deo gratias. Put out the candles, and lay up all decently and CONDITIONS FOR GAINING THE INDULGENCES 1. That the faithful confess their sins, with sincere repentance, to a Priest approved of by the Bishop. 2. That they worthily receive the Holy Communion. 3. That they visit some Chapel or Oratory where Mass is celebrated, and pray to God for the peace and welfare of his Church. 4. That they be in readiness of mind to assist the poor with alms in proportion to their abilities; or to frequent catechism or sermons; or to visit and comfort the sick, and such as are near their end, if they have the opportunity. Note. It is not required, for the gaining of these indulgences, that these works of mercy, corporal or spiritual, or the assisting at catechism or sermons, be done on the same day with the Communion; but only that persons be then in a disposition or readiness of mind to do these things, or some of them at least, when opportunity shall offer. Conditions of the Indulgences for Lent, Whitsuntide, and All-Saints, are: 1. To confess their sins with a sincere repentance, to a priest approved of by the bishop. 2. Devoutly and worthily to receive the Holy Communion. 3. If their condition will allow it, to give some alms to the poor, either on the eve or the day of their communion. On the day of their communion, to offer up some prayers to God, for the whole state of the Catholic Church throughout the world, for the bringing of all strayed souls to the fold of Christ, for the general peace of Christendom, and for the blessing of God upon this nation. Conditions of the Indulgence for St. Peter and St. Paul. 1. To confess their sins with a sincere repentance, to a priest approved of by the bishop. 2. Devoutly and worthily to receive the Holy Communion. 3. For some space of time, on the day of their communion, to pray to God with a sincere heart for the conversion of heretics, and for the free propagation of the holy faith. Other Indulgences. A plenary indulgence is granted to every one of the faithful who shall recite acts of Faith, Hope, Charity, and Contrition for Sin (see page 28, without the responses) devoutly once every day without interruption, for a month; and on any day within that month, shall devoutly approach to the sacraments of Penance and the Holy Communion, and pray for the good of the Church, &c. Also a plenary Indulgence at the hour of death, and an Indulgence of seven years and seven quarantene (or forty days), to each one, for every time they shall devoutly, from their heart, recite them. These Indulgences may be applied to the faithful dead. THE CHRISTIAN'S GREETING: page 173. An Indulgence of 100 days is granted each time any meeting one another use the CHRISTIAN'S GREETING. To those who shall devoutly call on the names "Jesus and Mary," twenty-five days' Indulgences for each time; and a plenary Indulgence to those who, having been wont so to greet one another, and to call upon the holy names in life, shall call upon them at the hour of death with a contrite heart, at least, if they are not able to pronounce the words with their lips. THE ANGELIC TRISAGIUM. page 173. 100 days' Indulgence may be gained once a day, or three times on Sundays and festivals, and in the octave of Trinity Sunday, by whoever, adoring the Holy Trinity with a contrite heart, devoutly repeats it; and a plenary Indulgence is granted to whoever so repeats it every day of the month and, having confessed and received communion on any one day of the said month, shall visit some church and pray there for the fulfilment of the prayers of the sovereign Pontiff.
