Moises, head master grammar school at Newcastle-uponTyne, in which situation he contributed not a little to the formation of some of the first characters in this country, among whom were Lord Eldon, Sir William Scott, Lord Collingwood, &c. Mr. Moises was formerly of Trinity College, and afterwards of Peterhouse, Cambridge: B. A. 1745, M. A. 1749.

At Oundle, aged 87, William Walcot, M. D. formerly of Jesus College, Cambridge. He acted for many years as a magistrate and deputy lieutenant for the county of Northampton.

At her house at Kensington, the Hon. Mary Leigh, of Stoneleigh Abbey, Warwickshire. This lady, eminently distinguished by her piety and extensive charities; was the last of that branch of the Leigh family, which descended from the second Sir Thomas Leigh, Lord Mayor of London at the accession of Queen Elizabeth. She has by her last will (made in 1786 upon the death of her brother Edward the last Lord Leigh) settled all her estates upon that branch of the family which descended from Rowland, eldest son of Sir Thomas Leigh, in the following order, viz. first, on the Rev. Thomas Leigh, of Adlestrop, in the county of Gloucester; secondly, on James Leigh Perrot, Esq. of Scarlits, in the County of Berks; thirdly, on James Henry Leigh, Esq. of Adlestrop, and his issue male, and in failure of their issue, on Thomas Charles Lord Viscount Tracy, Dr. John Tracy, and Henry Tracy, Esq. in tail male successively; and in failure of their issue male, on Sir Justinian Isham, Bart. and his issue male; and in failure thereof, on her male heirs for ever. Alarmed at this, they proceeded towards the spot; and one of them, who outran the other, saw a man near a hedge with a bag in his hand. On coming up to him, he asked him what he had been about. The man turned pale, dropped the bag, in which was a broken piece of a gun, and ran off. At this moment the person saw something on fire upon the ground, and discovered that it was a person who had been shot, and the clothes set on fire, as he supposed by the wadding of the gun. By this time his companion came up, and on hearing what had passed, rau for assistance, while the other pursued the suspected murderer, and coming very close to him, the man turned round and threatened to shoot the pursuer if he came near him. Intimidated by his threats, the person proceeded no further, and the murderer ran off and escaped. It appears that when the villain shot Mr. Parker
