THY LIGHT, “THAT LIGHTENS EVERY MAN."'

C. M.-"Arlington,” or “Ortonville," or "Woodland.”’

1. Thy Light, "that lightens every man,"
Our FATHER, shines o'er all;
Uprising from the midnight shades
Its beams upon us fall.

2. The dawn of Faith has now appeared; Full day will follow soon,

When Hope shall breathe with freer breath
And morn be lost in noon.

3. No longer do we seek or pray
For miracle or sign;

Our eyes are opened, and we see
That all things are divine.

4. No more in sacraments or rites,
In holy house or days,

We seek Thee, FATHER; for ourselves
Are temples of Thy praise.

5. The brighter light and broader view
Now to our souls reveal
Undreamed of glories, which before
The darkness did conceal.

6. Anew, with the fresh morning's glow,
We climb the heaven-ward way;
Brighter, we know, shall shine Thy Light
Unto the Perfect Day.-Amen.

HYMN XLI.

ETERNAL WORD, INCARNATE.

7s, 6s, D.-"St. Edith," or "Missionury Hymn."

1. Eternal WORD, incarnate

Forever and in all—

In every living object

However great or small!
Our FATHER do we call Thee,
And FATHER of the Whole-
Of every living object

The Substance and the Soul.
2. Thou wert in the beginning

And all things were in Thee;
Thou art, the same, in all things

We think, or hear, or see;
Beside Thee there is nothing,
Without Thee nothing made;

To Thee, the one Creator,

All homage now be paid.

3.

Thy Life, our FATHER, shineth
As Light to lighten all;
Though many, in their blindness,
The Light do darkness call!
And all Thy saintly sages,

Of every age and name,
Have joined, with holy voices,
This Gospel to proclaim :-

4. "Unto His own He cometh,
The FATHER of us all,
And all who will receive Him
His children doth He call;
The new-birth of the Spirit

On them He doth bestow,
And to them all His glory
He will forever show!"

WEARY, AND FAINT, AND HEAVY-LADE WITH CARE. 10s.-"Langran," or "Ellers."

1 Weary, and faint, and heavy-lade with care,

The man of Nazareth-Jacob's well drew near;

And, seated there, upon its curb of stone,

He sought to rest and meditate alone.

2. Water to bring a woman soon drew nigh;
The stranger gently unto her did say:

Give me to drink! The woman kindly gave;
Then asked this question, thoughtfully and grave:

3. In holy city or on holy hill

Which is the temple that Jehovah will

His dwelling make, and blessings there bestow

Upon His worshippers who thither go?

4. Answered the stranger, kindly and yet bold:
"Such is the worship of traditions old!
But the hour cometh, nay, hath come this day
When men such worship will no longer pay.

5. Nor here, nor there; nor in some stated way;
Nor with fixed words or forms shall henceforth pray
The worshipper, who his own heart sincere

A temple finds, and learns to worship there.

6. "No more Jehovah, God, or Lord His name
Whom henceforth as Our FATHER I proclaim;
Spirit is He, and spirits too are we;
Henceforth in spirit let our worship be."

7. Our FATHER, may we listen to this Word
So long ago, in far Judea, heard!

HYMN XLIV.

"FROM OFF THY FEET TAKE NOW THY SHOES."

C. M. D. "Vox Dilecti," or "St. Leonard."

1. "From off thy feet take now thy shoes
For this is holy ground;

My ceaseless presence is revealed
Through every sight and sound :
This bush that seems to burn with fire
Which never can consume,

Is but a symbol of the Life
Which all things doth illume.
