Luth. & Calv. From many texts, Mof. Name your fcripture. Luth. & Calv. From many texts. Mof. This is folly. How many covenants has Almighty God promifed? Luth. & Calv. Two.

Mof. Both from the feed of Abraham? Luth. & Calo. This cannot be contefted. Mof. From what tribe of Ifrael are Luther and Calvin ?

and

Luth.&Calv. Luther from the German, Calvin from the French tribes.

Mof. What were they and their ancestors before they fet up your covenant ?

Luth. & Calv. They were Roman Catholics, and Luther and Calvin were both priests.

Mof. Which of the two do you acknowledge your Meffiah of the new covenant?

Luth. & Calv. Neither; Jefus Chrift is our Meffiah, as you obferved before.

Mof. You acknowledge Luther and Calvin to be the two firft proteftants and apoftles of your religion, and that they established the covenant of proteftantifm 1500 years after Jefus Chrift had established his. At the fame time you profefs but two covenants, you grant the Jews one, and Jefus Chrift the other, which is the accomplishment of the fcripture?

Luth. Calv. Luther and Calvin were reformets.

A

Mof. What do you mean by reformers? Luth. & Calv. The proteftant creed, or faith, is, that presently after the apoftles age, the whole chriftian world, men, women, and children ...A 3

were drowned in idolatry and in a state of damnation; fo that there was no falvation in the world until Luther and Calvin restored life by fetting up our new religion.

Mof. If Jefus Chrift be the true Meffiah, as you believe, and is the ground of your faith, you must agree with me that your proteftant religion is an apoftacy and violation to the veracity and honour of God and difbelief of the whole fcriptures.

Luth. & Calv. We mean to do neither. Mof. Madness has no meaning, in this; you fpeak truly.

Lutb. & Calv. We hold forth the doctrine of truth.

Mof. That blafphemes and reprobates the true God, and his holy fcriptures.

Luth. & Calv. You speak like a papist.
Mof. I am a Jew, and speak as a Jew.
Luth. & Calv. Our war is not against the Jews.
Mof. All blafphemy against God and the
fcriptures is aginft us.

Luth. & Calv. We are only against popery. Mof. Believe me, your darts are pointed against none, being blunted with folly.

L. & C. We feed and live by the scriptures. Mof. Whenever you would be despised, mention fcripture.

L. & C. Scripture is the food of a chriftian. Mof. Your ignorance can never extend fo far as to perfuade yourselves that you who contemn Chrift, can be christians.

L. & C. We do not contemn Chrift; it is the Jews that are his adversaries; we honour and adore him as our Lord;

Mof. In what degree of Lordship?

Luth. & Calv. Lord of Truth and Juftice, and Prince and Head of his Church.

Mof. Of what church is Chrift Head and Prince?

Luth. & Calv. Of the chriftian church which he founded.

Mof. This is the mystery of myfteries. Luth.& Calv. All are reconcileable with faith. Mof. You will allow truth and falsehood are two oppofites which cannot be reconciled?

Luth.& Calv. This would be childish to deny, Mof. You will allow that a Creator may act according to his will on the thing he creates ?

Luth. & Cval. This alfo is as clear as the fun. Mof. You will allow that juftice and power cannot be injuftice and weakness?

Luth. & Calv. We cannot deny this truth. Mof. You will allow that goodnefs and mercy cannot be wickednefs and unmercifulness?

Luth. & Calv. Oppofites never coincide together.

Mof. You allow, in God, infinite power, truth, knowledge, forefight, and goodness, and infinite in whatever is his will, and that nothing can happen or be in his creation but what is his will to order or permit.

Luth. & Calv. To this we affent, both heart and foul.

Mf. You acknowledge and believe, that this God founded and establifhed his fecond and laft covenant in the perfon of Jefus Chrift with the chriftian church, which covenant, or church, by the affiftance and moft pofitive and folemn A 4 pro

promifes of Jefus Chrift himself, that it fhould
be kept, taught and fanctified by his spirit, and
nourished by himself until the general judgment
or end of the world, which is the promise of
our fcriptures alfo to the fecond covenant?
Luth. & Calv. Every proteftant will lay down
his life and property to atteft this truth.
Mof. Are you carneft and fincere?

Luth. & Calv. We anfwer for the whole reformation.

Mof. That you would lay down your lives and properties for Jefus Chrift and his church?

Luth. & Calv. This hour, if required, and oppofe every adverfary who dare contradict, or gainfay, this great truth.

Mof. We are, at length, arrived to the unfolding of the mystery of mysteries.

Luth. & Calv. We will be happy to give you every inlight into our great myfteries.

Mof. Almighty God guards, rules, governs, fanctifies, and keeps the new covenant, or chriftian church, holy and undefiled, until he fhall tranflate her into heaven, and there to be happy with him for all eternity.

Luth. & Calv. This truth is the promise of both your's and our fcriptures, as alfo our three chriftian creeds, which all chriftians profess and believe; without this, we believe there is no falvation. This is the firm Rock, which is Chrift, that we ftand upon.

Mof. And, according to your fcripture, Chrift made a Rock of Peter and appointed him Chief Bishop, or Pope, and invested him with ample power for hearing and determining caufes, and,

authorifing and granting him and the priefthood the plenitude of fpiritual power.

Luth. & Calv. They prefently abufed the bounty and goodness of God; and before the third century, a moft woeful thing to ruminate upon, brought in and mixed their heathen and idolatrous worship, with the chriftian, and fell into every diforder deteftable to God and hateful to man; fo that they were left and abandoned by God, as our proteftant creed or homily teftifies, that all chriftendom, men, women, and children, were drowned in damnable idolatry, for about 1000 years, which was about 300 years from the birth of Chrift, and that during that time none were faved. It was the only means left for Luther and Calvin, who were brought up in this fynagogue of Satan, and wore his mark, the priesthood, until they turned their backs upon them, and drew thoufands out of the mire of iniquity: that was a bright day.

Mof. What creeds did Luther and the rest of the proteftants fay, during thefe contests, and what other devotions?

Luth. & Calu. There was, as foon as convenient, feveral fynods held to determine upon fome proper fyftan of worship, and articles of faith, to confirm and cftablifh our raw and new Sion, and reftore the new covenant to its firft state and fimplicity.

Mof. By your rule of faith, heaven is more indebted to the Reformation than to chriftia nity for its inhabitants.

Luth. & Calv. The Reformation is christianity reftored.

Mof.
