Pov. We have agreed above, that the Meffiah is promised in the 3d chapter of Genelis, to reconcite the creature man to his God; we have all in our last conference agreed from whai are there fet down; from the 15th, 17th, 22d chapters of Genesis, that'Amighty God made a covenant with Abraham, and promised the Mel fiah hould be of his feed, by whom all nations of the earth should be bleret. We will now fee the faire promise renewed to Ifaac in the 26h chapter of the fame book ; and the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of ; Jojourn in this land, and I evill be with thee, and will bless thee ; for unto thee ard thy feed I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I fware into Abraham thy father; and I will make thy feed to multiply as the stars of Heaven, and I will give unto tby feed all tbefe countries ; aud in the seed fall all the nations of the earth be blessed. Again the bl-fling is repeated and promiled to Jacob in the 28ih chap: ter, as we took norice in our last conference. I am the Lord Goit of Abrahan thy father, and the God of Isaac : the land whereon ihou liest, to thee will. I give it, and to thy feed; and thy Jeed Mall be as the dust of the eartb, and shall spread atroad to the West, and to the East, and io tbe North, and to the South; and in thee, and in thy seid jhall all the families of the earth be blejjed. In the 49th chapter, Israel's blessing to Judah prophetically points out thatche Meffiah thould be of that rribe ; and marks out his coming. Judah thou art lie whoin ihy brethren shall

praise ; thine hand shall be in the neck of thy enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee: Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son thou art gone up; he stooped down; he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who mall rouse him up? The Icepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a law-giver from between his feer, until Shiloh come; and unto him Thall the gathering of the people be, binding his fold unto the vine, and his asses colt unto the choice vine. He washed his garmențs in wine, and his cloaths in the blood of grapes: his eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.” The last prophecy I shall set down is what yourself feels the weight of by your commission, enjoined by your lawgiver from the immediaie command of Almighty God, Deut. 18th chap. And the Lord God said unto me, “I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren, like unto chee, and will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command hiin: and it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall [peak in my name, I will require it of him.” To is to be observed, Almighty God established his the law or legislation of Mofes ; neither do we h covenant with Abraham 600 years before observe any mention of it until it was enjoined in the wildernefs. Genesis 17th chap. And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, she Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto hia, “ I am the Almighty God, walk before me, 3 and be chou perfcct, and I will make My co

venant between Me and thee, and I will mul. tiply thee exceedingly." And Abram fell upon his face; and God talked with him, saying, « As for Me, behold My covenant is with thee, and thou halt be a father of many nations: neither thalt thy name any more ble called Abram, but thy name fhall be called Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee; and I will make thee exceeding fruitful; and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee; and I will estabJish My covenant between Me and thee, and thy seed after thee in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy feed after thee. This is My covenant which ye shall keep between Me and you, and thy feed after thee: every man-child among you shall be circumcised ; and ye shall circumcise the Aeth of your fore-skin, and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt Me and you : and he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man-child in your generacions; he that is born in thy house, or bought with money of any stranger' which is not of thy feed. And the uncircumcised manchild whole flesh of his fore-skin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people ; he hath broken My covenant ; and God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a fon, indeed and thou shalt call his name Ifaac ; and I will establish My covenant with him for an ever-Jasting covenant, and with his seed after him."

On the same day was Abraham circumcised, and Ithmael his fon, and all the men of his

house,

houte, born in the house, and bought with mopey of the Atranger, were circumcised with him.' It is therefore evident that the first covenant dates its epoch from the day aforementioned; and as I observed above, throughout thefe communications betwixt the Creator and his creatures, not a single mention is made of

the legislation of Moses, but the whole force and blessings are immediately referred and carsied to the Messiah. -We find your law-giver, who was the sacred pen-man of these prophe.cies, referring you to your Messiah, where you are to receive life, and a curse if you refuse to obey.

* Mofes. The prophecies are full that a Mefliah was promised, to whom we are referred, and from him we expect all blessings; the circumftances and signs of his coming are prophesied to us by our father Jacob, in his laft blefling ito Judah, from whose tribe he was to be born. The feeptre fhall not depart from Judah, nor a law-giver from between his feet; unel ShiJoh come, and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. The sceptre commenced with David, and continued in his descendants until Judea became a Roman province, when the fceptre was granted to an alien (King Herod) by Auguítus the Roman Emperor : this alien not only intruded himself on the throne, but also dismissed the legal line of priesthood, and -intruded obfcure persons, which custom was followed by his fucceffors, fhutting up the holy robe of the high priest, under their privy feal; fo thạc the priest had no longer the pri

sniclisgan: Boy: gth chapter Daniel. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people, and upon thy holy city, to finish the tranfgreffion, and to make an end of fins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlafting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy: before we proceed it will be proper to draw fome conclu. fions from this verse.

Mofes, Seventy weeks, taken each day for a year, is 490 years ; to make reconcilement for lin, there must be a facrifice of an equal value; that is, a sacrifice equal in fanctity, as the offence is in fin; capable of making atonement to the Divine Majesty for crimes committed ; everlasting righteousness, free from fin, never being stained, but always pure; and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the mour holy. Here is the Meffiah, the great Prophet, under and from whom Ifrael expects all blessings.
