MINUTES.

At a meeting of the GENERAL ASSOCIATION OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, held in the meeting house of the First Church and Society in Concord, September 6, 1831, at 10 o'clock, A. M., the following delegates, as it appeared from certificates read, were found to be present:

The sermon before the Association was preached by Rev. EBENEZER COLEMAN, from 1 Timothy, 3: 7.

Rev. NATHANIEL LAMBERT was chosen Moderator; Rev. HANDEL G. NOTT, Scribe; Rev. SILAS AIKEN, Assistant Scribe.

The meeting was opened with prayer by the Moderator. The regulations and certificates of the election of members were read.

Rev. Messrs. Fairbank, Thatcher and A. W. Burnham, were appointed a Committee of Nomination. Adjourned till 2 o'clock, P. M.

Met agreeably to adjournment.

Rev. Messrs, Smith, Rankin, Foster, Vail and Fisk, were appointed to take minutes of the state of Religion, and to furnish a report. (See Appendix No. I.)

Rev. Messrs. David Sutherland, Josiah Prentice, John H. Church, D. D., Ebenezer Hill, Nathaniel Bouton, Jacob Cummings, Jonathan L. Hale, Nathan Lord, D. D., Joseph W. Clary and Ephraim P. Bradford, were chosen a Committee to certify the regular standing of ministers in this State, travelling beyond its limits.

Rev. Messrs. Coleman and Burnham, were appointed to designate the place for the next meeting, and to name the Association which shall furnish the preacher.

Chose Rev. Abraham Burnham, Treasurer for the ensuing year, and Rev. Nathaniel Bouton, Auditor.

Rev. Z. S. Barstow and S. S. Arnold, were appointed to prepare a pastoral address for the next meeting.

Delegates to foreign bodies the last year, made their reports, which were accepted.

Rev. Messrs. Church, A. Burnham and Grant Powers, were appointed a Committee to make a report, on the better mode of charitable collections, as contained in the minutes of the General Association of Connecticut.

The Association attended to the Pastoral Address prepared by the Committee previously appointed for that purpose.

Voted, That the address be published with the minutes; and that the Publishing Committe consist of the Scribes. (See Appendix No. II.)

The Association attended to Narratives of the state of Religion in the churches.

Adjourned, with prayer, to meet at 8 o'clock, to-morrow morning.

SEPTEMBER 7.

The Association met according to adjournment.

Opened with prayer.

The Committee previously appointed on Church discipline, reported, that owing to peculiar circumstances, nothing definite had been done. Agreeably to its requests,

Voted, That they be discharged from further attending to the business.

The chairman of the committee appointed the last year to devise, if practicable, some method to secure the better attendance of delegates to foreign bodies, reported, and thereupon,

Voted, That there be appointed annually, a Committee who shall be empowered to appoint a delegate or delegates, to any foreign body in our connexion, on being duly informed that the delegates and substitutes fail of performing the service assigned them.

The Rev. Messrs. Nathaniel Bouton and Abraham Burnham, were appointed the committee for the year ensuing.

Voted, That there be annually appointed by this General Association, a member of each District Association, to be a receiver of the tax assessed on each minister in our connexion, and forward the same to the Treasurer.

The following persons were then appointed to be receivers for, the year, viz: Rev. Messrs. David Sutherland, Daniel Lancaster, Charles Walker, Nathaniel Bouton, Stephen Morse, James D. Farnsworth, Israel W. Putnam, George Punchard, Phineas Cooke, Lane, Eber Child and Cal

vin Cutler.

Voted, That a tax of 50 cents be assessed on each member of the several District Associations.

Voted, That the Treasurer make a communication to delinquent Associations, through their receivers, in regard to the payment of arrearages.

The Committee on the appointment of Delegates to foreign. bodies, reported the following nomination, which was accepted by vote:
