THE ARMSTRONG LEAGUE OF HAMPTON WORKERS

NOTI

TOTICE is hereby given of the regular annual meeting of The Armstrong League of Hampton Workers to be held in the Museum at Hampton Institute on Wednesday, November 1, 1911, at 4:30 P. M. A full attendance is desired, and all of the new Hampton workers are cordially invited to be present.

Attention is called to the fact that certain amendments to the Constitution will be recommended by the Executive Committee at this meeting. The Constitution as amended will read as follows:

I

The name of this society shall be THE ARmstrong League of HAMPTON WORKERS.

II

The object of the League shall be to work for the good of the Hampton Institute, and, immediately, to work toward securing two thousand dollars for the establishment of a permanent academic and industrial scholarship, to be called the Hampton Workers' Armstrong Memorial Scholarship.

III

All workers at any time connected with The Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute shall be eligible for membership in the League.

IV

Any person eligible for membership may become a member of the League by contributing one dollar to the society, and promising to work in its behalf.

V

The officers of the League shall be a President, Vice-President, a committees Corresponding Secretary and a Recording Secretary, a Treasurer, an Executive Committee, a Publication Committee, a Social Committee and an Historical Committee.

The President shall preside at all meetings either of the League or of the Executive Committee, or, in case of absence or disability, may appoint one of the Vice-Presidents to take his place.

VII

The Vice-Presidents shall guide and direct the work of the League in their respective places of abode; and, in the absence of the President and his non-appointment of a presiding officer, one of their number shall be chosen to preside at meetings of the League or of the Executive Committee.

The Treasurer shall keep account of all moneys received or expended for the League, and shall report to the League at the annual meeting in November, and to the Executive Committee as he may be requested to do so by the President.

The Secretaries shall do whatever writing or correspondence may be Secretaries necessary for the good of the League, give due notice of the meetings, and keep the minutes of all meetings of the League and of its Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee is to meet at least five times during the committees year; that is, in November, January, March, May, and October. The Publication, Social, and Historical Committees are to meet in the same months, and to make reports of their procceedings through their chairmen, to the Executive Committee.

Executive

The Executive Committee shall consist of the President, the ViceCommittee President, the Secretaries, the Treasurer, and the chairmen of the Publication, Historical, and Social Committees. They shall have power to fill any vacancies that may occur during the year; they shall decide in regard to all minor matters of business or policy between the meetings of the League, and shall have power to execute their decisions. They may also call meetings of the League at any time when it seems to a majority of the Committee to be advisable to do so, and it shall be their duty to call a meeting of the League when requested to do so by any five members of the League. The Executive Committee shall also have power to appoint committees from among the members of the League to perform any special work that the interests of the League may seem to them to require. Five members shall constitute a quorum.

Publication It shall be the duty of the Publication Committee to publish and disCommittee tribute literature which may further the interests of the League. The Secretaries of the League shall be, ex-officio, members of the Publication Committee.

XIII

The Social Committee shall make it their business to promote in Committee every way the social interests of the League, and to do their best to keep up a feeling of good fellowship and common interest among all members of the League.

XIV

Historical It shall be the duty of the Historical Committee to keep permanent Committee records of the history of Hampton Institute through the continual collection of materials, both old and new, in the way of relics, pictures, printed matter, letters, manuscripts, records of personal interviews, and whatever else is likely to be of interest or value historically. This material is to be arranged and filed in the school library. It shall also be the duty of the Historical Committee to co-operate with the Social Committee in arranging each year for one or more historical meetings, where the school workers shall have opportunity of looking at the old pictures or hearing of the early days of the school.

An annual meeting for the election of officers shall be held at Hampton on the first Wednesday in November of each year, notices of the time and place of the meeting to be sent to all members whose addresses are known, and also to be published in the Southern Workman. Officers and Committees shall be nominated by a committee of three members, appointed by the President previous to the annual meeting, and shall be elected by ballot, each member of the League present at the meeting being entitled to one vote. A majority of all votes cast shall be necessary to elect. Officers shall continue in office until others are elected in their places.

An attendance of twenty members of the League shall constitute a quorum at any regularly called meeting.

Each member of the League, after the first year of membership, is expected to pay the Treasurer, at or before each annual meeting of the League in November, the sum of one dollar.

A reminder of the annual fee shall be sent each year to all members whose addresses are known, with a notiee of the annual meeting.

XVII

This Constitution may be amended at any annual meeting of the League by a vote of two-thirds of the members present.

Any amendment agreed upon by twelve members of the League must be proposed by the Executive Committee at the next annual meeting after said amendment is presented to the committee; notice of the proposed amendment and its substance, to be published in the Southern Workman at the time of the call of the annual meeting.
