PORTER OF ALWARDBY (CUMBERLAND).
[Anstis MS. C.9. fol. 71d.]
Thomas Porter of Bolton in Alerdale doter and heyr of Thomas Lowder of Alworth alias Crosby Alward.
Thomas Porter, 2 son of Thomas.
William Porter, son and heyre-Elsabeth, doter of Rychard Eglesfeld of Alanburgh.
Antony Porter, son and heyre=Jane, doter and on of theyres of Roland Thornboroo of
Osmotherley in Lancashire.
Ellen, doter of Robert Bryggs.
William Porter, son-Fraunces, doter and on of theyres of John and heyre. Lamplew and of Kateren his wyf, doter and heyre of Gy Foster of Olderwyke in Comberland.
This pedigree is also a copy without additions from Harvey's Visitation of 1552. See vol. i of this work, pp. 36, 37. Like that in 16 Harl. Soc., this pedigree omits Crystabell given by Harvey as the second wife of William Porter II. There are no additions in the pedigree printed in Foster, Cumberland and Westmorland Visitation Pedigrees, p. 107. That pedigree is headed "Porter of Alwardby, 1615," but it must have been compiled more than fifty years earlier, and the absence of later generations in it shows that it could have formed no part of St. George's Visitation of those counties in 1615. See vol. i of this work, p. 135. note. According to Lysons, Magna Britannia (Cumberland), p. lxxxviii, the family became extinct in the main line early in the seventeenth century. The arms with quartering and impalement reproduced in the text are practically the same as are given by Harvey, ubi sup. The impalement should more properly be Lamplugh than Foster. See Harl. publ. 6, p. 27, and Foster, Cumberland,
Pedigrees are printed in SMALL CAPITALS; arms in italics.
An asterisk denotes that the name of a person or place occurs more than once on a page.
