Under a call for volunteers to carry the Gospel to the Arctic and sub-Arctic Alaska, the Congregational denomination commenced work at Cape Prince of Wales in 1890, and now three stations and three missions, one of them at Nome, is the result of their efforts. In 1900 the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church of the United States started work at Teller with one minister and two lay missionaries.
