ART. II. You believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and are a perfect rule of faith and practice.

2 Tim. 3, xvi. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2 Peter, 1, xxi. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Mat. 22. xxix. Ps. 119, cv. Luke 24, xxvii, xliv, xlv. John 5, xxxix. Isa. 8, xx. Gal. 1, viii.

ART. III. You believe that God made all things by the word of his power, and that in his righteous providence, he overrules them in subservience to his own glory and the highest good of the universe.

Neh. 9, vi. Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee. Mat. 10, xxix, xxx. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Ps. 103, xix. The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens, and his Kingdom ruleth over all. Ps. 145, xv, xvi. The eyes

of all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. Acts 2, xxiii. Acts 4, xxvii. xxviii. Eph. 1, xi. Isa. 45, vii. Isa. 46, xvi. Prov. 16. iv. Heb. 6, xvii. Ps. S3,xi.

ART. IV. You believe that God ereated man holy and upright, but that, in consequence of the apostacy of Adam, all men are by nature in a fallen state, destitute of holiness and children of wrath, and cannot be restored to the divine favor without an atonement for sin.

Gen. 1, xxvi, xxvii. And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness; so God created man in his ⚫wn image; in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Ecc. 7, xxix. Lo, this only have I found, that God made man upright. Rom. 5, xii. Therefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Gen. 6, v. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. John 3, vi. That which is born of the flesh, is flesh. Rom. 8, vi, vii, viii. For to be carnally minded is death; because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Heb. 9. xxii. And without shedding of blood is no remission. Ps. 14, i, ii, iii. Eph. 2, iii. Rom. 3, ix to xviii. Acts 4, xii.

ART. V. You believe, that Jesus Christ, by his sufferings and death, has made a sufficient atonement for the sins of the world, so that now, God can be just and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

John 1, xiv. xxix. And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us. Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world! 1 John 2, ii And he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Rom. 5, viii. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rev. 5, ix. Thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation. Pet. 1, xviii to xx. Phil. 2, vi to viii. 1 Tim. 3, xvi. Mat. 26, xxviii.

ART. VI. You believe, that notwithstanding the moral corruption of our race, all men are free and accountable agents; that the invitations of the gospel are addressed indiscriminately to them all; and that all, who perish under its light, perish by voluntarily rejecting its offer of eternal life.

Josh. 24. xv. Choose you this day whom ye will serve. Rom. 14, xii. Every one shall give account of himself to God. Rev. 22, xvii. Whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely. Isa. 45, xxii. Look unto me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. Luke 14, xvii, xviii. Come, for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent began to make excuse. John 5, xl. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. Hos. 13, ix. ✪ Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself. Ezek. 18, xxx, xxxi. Mark 16, xv, xvi.

ART. VII. You believe, that in order to acceptance with God, the sinner must be renewed in the temper of his mind; that this change is wrought by the Holy Spirit through the instrumentality of truth, and in perfect consistency with the free

dom of the creature; and that while all, if left to themselves, would voluntarily continue in sin, the spirit, according to the eternal purpose of God, inclines the sinner to exercise repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 3, v. Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 1 Cor. 4, xv. For in Christ Jesus I have begotten you, through the Gospel. 2 Thess. 2 xiii. But we are bound to give thanks always to God, for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation, through sanctification of the spirit and belief of the truth. Ezek. 36, XXVI, xxvii. Eph. 1, iii to v. Tit. 3, v.

ART. VIII. You believe, that the law of God demanding perfect holiness of heart and life, is binding on all men, and that though complete sanctification is not attained in the present state, the fruits of regeneration will be exhibited in acts of practical godliness.

John 15, viii, xii, xiv. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this; To visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. 2 Cor. 7, i. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, pertecting holiness in the fear of God. Mat. 10, xxxvii, xxxviii. James 3, xvii. 2 Cor. 1 xii. Mic. 6, viii. Josh. 1, viii.

ART. IX. You believe, that the soul, once made partaker of renewing grace, will never be permitted to fall away, so as finally to perish, but will be kept by the power of God, through faith unto salvation.

Jer. 31, iii. Yea I loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee. Job 17, ix. The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. Phil. 1. vi. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. John 10, xxvii, xxviii, xxix. Rom. 8, xxx.

ART. X. You believe, that any number of christian believers, organized according to the Gospel, constitutes a Church of Christ; the special ordinances of which, are baptism and the Lord's Supper; the former to be administered to believers and their households.

Rom. 16, iv, v. Unto whom not only I give thanks, but also to all the Churches of the Gentiles. Likewise greet the Church that is in their house. Acts. 16, xxxiii. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. Acts 16, xv. And she was baptized, and her household, &c. 1 Cor. 1, xvi.

ART. XI. You believe, that at the end of time the Lord Jesus Christ will descend from heaven to raise the dead and judge the world; that then there will be
