WE are met together in this Introductory place, in the presence of God and of each other, for the purpose of uniting these two persons in Matrimony— which is an honourable estate, instituted by God in the time of man's innocency-which estate Christ sanctioned and adorned by his presence and first miracle at Cana in Galilee, and is commended of Saint Paul to be honourable among all men, and is not therefore to be lightly or thought

lessly entered into, but advisedly, discreetly, soberly, and in the fear of God.

I REQUIRE and charge you both, as ye shall answer at the dreadful day of judgment, when the secrets of all hearts shall be disclosed, that if either of you know any impediment why ye may not be lawfully joined together in Matrimony, ye do now confess it: for be ye well assured, that so many as are united together contrary to the Word of God, have no reasonable ground to expect His blessing on their union.

Disavowal of the
Man, in the words

of the Act.

[Here desire the Man to say as follows:]

I DO solemnly declare, that I know not of any lawful impediment why I, A. B., may not be joined in Matrimony to C. D.”

[Then desire the Woman to say as follows:]

Woman, in words of the A

"I DO Solemnly declare, that I Disavowal of know not of any lawful impediment why I, C. D., may not be joined in Matrimony to A. B.”

[Then, turning to the Man, say,]

A. B., WILT thou have this Woman to be thy wedded wife, to live together after God's ordinance, in the honourable estate of Matrimony? Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honour and cherish her, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto her, so long as ye both shall live?

[The Man shall say,]
