HYMN CLXXI The Same..

BRETHREN, let us join to bless
Jefus Christ our joy and peace;
Let our praise to him be giv'n,
High at God's right hand in heav'n.
Mafter, fee to thee we bow,
Thou art Lord, and only thou;
Thou, the blessed Virgin's feed,
Glory of thy church and head.
Thee the angels ceafelefs fing,
Thee we praife, our Priest and King;
Worthy is thy name of praife,
Full of glory, full of grace.

Thou haft the glad tidings brought
Of falvation by thee wrought;
Wrought for all thy church, and we
Worship in their company.

We, thy little flock, adore
Thee, the Lord, for evermore;
Ever with us fhow thy love,

Till we join with thofe above.

HYMN CLXXII.

For the Propagation of the Gospel. COME, divine Immanuel, come, Take poffeffion of thy home;

Now thy mercy's wings expand,
Stretch throughout the happy land.

Carry on thy victory,

Spread thy rule from fea to sea ;
Re-convert the ranfom'd race,
Save us, fave us, Lord, by grace.

O that every foul might be
Suddenly fubdu'd to thee;
O that all in thee might know
Everlafting life below.

Now thy mercy's wings expand,
Stretch throughout the happy land;
Take poffeffion of thy home,
Come, divine Immanuel, come.

HYMN CLXXIII. Rejoicing in Hope.
HILDREN of the heav'nly King,
As ye journey, fweetly fing;

Sing your Saviour's worthy praife,
Glorious in his works and ways.

We are trav'lling home to God,
In the way the fathers trod;
They are happy now, and we
Soon their happinefs fhall fee.
O ye banish'd feed be glad ;
Chrift your Advocate is made!
Us to fave our flesh affumes,
Brother to our fouls becomes !

Shout, ye little flock and bleft,
Ye on Jefu's throne shall reft:

There your feat is now prepar'd,
There your kingdom and reward.
Fear not, brethren, joyful ftand
On the borders of your land:
Jefus Chrift, your Father's Son,
Bids you undifmay'd go on.
Lord, obediently we go,
Gladly leaving all below!
Only thou our leader be,

And we still will follow thee.

HYMN CLXXIV.

Breathing after Holiness.

LOVE divine, all loves excelling,

Joy of heav'n to earth come down ;
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown.
Jefus, thou art all compaffion;
Pure unbounded love thou art:
Vifit us with thy falvation,

Enter ev'ry trembling heart.
Breathe, O breathe thy loving fpirit
Into ev'ry troubled breast,
Let us all in thee inherit,

Let us find thy promis'd reft;
Take away the love of finning,
Alpha and Omega be,

End of faith as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.

Come, almighty to deliver,
Let us all thy life receive;
Suddenly return, and never,

Never more thy temples leave;
Thee we would be always bleffing,
Serve thee as thy hosts above;
Pray and praise thee without ceafing,
Glory in thy precious love.
Finish then thy new creation,
Pure, unfpotted may we be;
Let us fee thy great falvation
Perfectly reftor'd by thee!
Change from glory into glory,

Till in heav'n we take our place;
Till we caft our crowns before thee,
Loft in wonder, love, and praise!

HYMN CLXXV. The Chriftian Soldier.

SOLDIERS of Chrift àrise,

And put your armour on:

Strong in the ftrength which God fupplies, Through his eternal Son;

Strong in the Lord of hofts,

And in his mighty pow'r :

Who in the ftrength of Jefus trufts
Is more than conqueror.

Stand then in his great might,
With all his ftrength endu'd;
And take, to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of God;

That having all things done,
And all your conflicts past,

You may o'ercome through Christ alone,
And ftand complete at last.

Jefus hath died for you;

What can his love withstand? Believe, hold faft your fhield, and who Shall pluck you from his hand? Believe that Jefus reigns;

All pow'r to him is giv'n;

Believe, till, freed from Nature's chains,

You 're call'd from hence to heav'n.

Your Rock can never shake; Hither, he faith, come up; The helmet of falvation take,

[ocr errors]

The confidence of hope:

Hope for his perfect love,
Hope for his promis'd reft,
Hope to fit down with Chrift above,
And fhare the marriage feast.

In fellowship alone,

To God with faith draw near; Approach his courts, befiege his throne, With all the pow'r of prayer;

Go to his temple, go,

Nor from his altar move:
Let every houfe his worship know,

And ev'ry heart his love.
