HYMN CCXII.

Praifing the Glory of the Grace of God.
RACE, how exceeding sweet to those,
Who feel they finners are;

GR

Sunk and diftreft, they taste and know

Their heav'n is only there!

Thus Grace, free Grace moft fweetly calls,.
"Directly come who will,
"Juft as you are, for Chrift receives
"Poor helpless finners ftill!"

We thirst, O Lord! give us each day
To tafte more of this Grace;
More of that stream which from the rock
Flow'd through the wilderness.

Where'er eternal life is giv'n,

This thirst the same will be;

The heart will after Jefus pant
To all eternity.,

'Tis Grace alone that feeds our fouls,
Grace keeps us inly poor;
And, oh that nothing elfe but Grace
May rule for evermore !

HYMN CCXIII. .

Infinitely condefcending Love.

LOVE brought down God's dear only Son,
Into a virgin's womb;

Love nail'd him to th' accurfed tree,
And laid him in a tomb,

[ocr errors]

Through ev'ry action fuff'ring too,
The law of kindness reign'd;

Love op'd thofe ghaftly wounds, through which

His precious life was drain'd.

Love took him to his Father's throne,
There to prepare us room:
And love will bring him down again,
To fetch us to his home.

HYMN CCXIV.

SON of God, thy bleffing grant,
Still fupply our ev'ry want;.
Tree of life, thine influence fhed,
With thy fap our spirits feed.

Tend'reft branch, alas, am I,
Wither, without thee, and die:
Weak as helpless infancy-
O confirm our fouls in thee.

Unfuftain'd by thee, we fall,
Send the strength for which we call;
Weaker than a bruifed reed,
Help we ev'ry moment need.

All our hopes on thee depend,
Love us fave us to the end,
Give us the continuing grace-
Take the everlasting praise.

HYMN CCXV.

Chrift the Believer's Refuge.
IN ev'ry trouble, fharp and strong,
My foul to Jefus flies;
My anchor-hold is firm in him,
When fwelling billows rife :
His comforts bear my fpirits up,
I truft a faithful God;

The fure foundation of my hope
Is in a Saviour's blood.
Loud hallelujahs fing, my foul,
To thy Redeemer's name:
In joy, in forrow, life and death,
His love is ftill the fame.

HYMN CCXVI. Heaven on Earth.

COME let us afcend,

My companion and friend,

To taste of the banquet above;

If thine heart be as mine,
If for Jefus it pine,
Come up into the chariot of love,
Who in Jefus confide,

They are bold to outride
The ftorms of affliction beneath :

With the prophet they foar

To that heav'nly fhore,

And outfly all the arrows of death.
By faith we are come

To our permanent home,

By hope we the rapture improve;
By love we ftill rife,

And look down on the skies,
For the heaven of heavens is love!
Who on earth can conceive
How happy we live,

In the city of God the great King!
What a concert of praife,

When our Jefus's grace
The whole heavenly company fing!
What a rapturous fong,
When the glorified throng
In the spirit of harmony join!
Join all the glad choirs,
Hearts, voices, and lyres,
And the burden is mercy divine!
Hallelujah they cry,

To the King of the fky,
To the great everlasting I AM!
To the Lamb that was flain,
And liveth again,
Hallelujah to God and the Lamb!

HYMN CCXVII. Before Sacrament.

FAITHFUL Bridegroom, holy Lamb,

By thy church beloved,

Manifeft thy fweetest name,
To each heart approved.

Crown this ordinance of thing
With a folemn bleffing;
Let our feaft be all divine,
Each thyself poffeffing.
Let thy flesh afford us food,
Ev'ry grace to strengthen
Let our drink be Jefu's blood,
Nature's pow'r to weaken,
Cause that bleeding Sacrifice,
Once for finners given,
To appear before our eyes,
Earneft of our heaven.

We partake the bread and wine,
Seals of our profeffion;
Of the inward grace the fign,
Symbols of thy paffion.

We commemorate thy death,
While we are receiving!
Feeding in our hearts by faith,
With unfeign'd thanksgiving
May we thus our time employ,
While below we tarry;

Till our fouls t' unfading joy
Angels come to carry.

HYMN CCXVIII. After Sacrament,

LORD, accept our feeble praise,
For the banquet given;
