In closing his labours for the year, it is due to his many friends that the Editor should acknowledge the kind encouragement and assistance he has received. Without exception, he has been cheered by the unsought approbation of brethren, and by the great and uniform interest which has been shewn in the prosperity and stability of the Journal. But one more thing is wanting to complete his satisfaction, and to ensure its permanence,—it has not yet reached a sale sufficient to cover the cost of its production. On his own account, of course, the Editor regrets this, but much more that it limits his power of raising yet higher its religious and literary character. While, therefore, renewing his toil for another year, he would hope in this respect also, to have to congratulate himself and his readers long before its close; and that, by a wider circulation, its continuance may be placed on a sure basis. To the several contributors the Editor presents his thanks. By their valuable assistance he has been able to lay before his readers a variety of most instructive and interesting matter, much of it exhibiting a large amount of cultivated taste and literary acquirement. The pages of the Journal will continue to be enriched by their communications; and amongst others, by yet further unpublished productions of those eminent men, Hall |
