5 But ah, how far from mortal sight
The Lord of glory dwells!
A veil of interposing night
His radiant face conceals. .
4. Q could my longing spirit rise
On strong immortal wing, , ,
And reach thy palace in the skies,
My Saviour and my King!
5 There thousands worship at thy feet,
And there (divine employ!)
The triumphs of thy love repeat,
In songs of endless joy.
6 Thy presence beams eternal day
O'er all the blissful place;
Who would not drop this load of clay,
And die to see thy face?

The Excellency and Sufficiency of the Scrip-
ATHER of mercies! in thy word
What endless glories shine!
For ever be thy name ador’d
For these celestial lines.
2 Here may the wretched sons of want
Exhaustless riches find;
Riches above what earth can grant,
And lasting as the mind.
3 Here the fair tree of knowledge grows,
And yields a free repast,
Sublimer sweets than nature knows
Invite the longing taste.
4 Here the Redeemer’s welcome voice
Spreads heavenly peace around;
And life, and everlasting joys
Attend the blissful sound.
5 9 may these heavenly pages be
My ever dear delight;
And still new beauties may I see,
And still increasing light.
6 Divine Instructor, gracious Lord,
Be thou for ever near;
Teach me to love thy sacred word,
And view my Saviour there.

The Seasons crowned with Goodness.
Psalm lxv. 11.

TERNAL source of every joy!
Well may thy praise our lips employ,

While in thy temple we appear,
To hail thee, Sov’reign of the year.
2. Wide as the wheels of nature roll,
Thy hand supports and guides the whole;
The sun is taught by thee to rise,
And darkness when to veil the skies.
3. The flow'ry spring, at thy command,
Perfumes the air, and paints the land;
The summer rays with rigour shine
To raise the corn and cheer the vine.
* Thy hand in autumn richly pours
Through all our coast redundant stores;
And winters, soften’d by thy care,
No more the face of horror wear.
5 Seasons, and months, and weeks, and days
Demand successive songs of praise;
And be the grateful homage paid,
With morning light and evening shade.
6 Here in thy house let incense rise,
And circling sabbaths bless our eyes,
Till to those lofty heights we soar,
Where days and years revolve no more.

HYMN LVII. Prayer for JMinisters. Fo of mercies! bow thine ear, Attentive to our earnest prayer ; We plead for those who plead for thee, Successful pleaders may they be! 2 How great their work, how vast their charge! Do thou their anxious souls enlarge ; Their best acquirements are our gain, We share the blessings they obtain. 3 Clothe, then, with energy divine Their words, and let those words be thine; To them thy sacred truth reveal, Suppress their fear, inflame their zeal. 4 Teach them to sow the precious seed, Teach them thy chosen flock to feed; Teach them immortal souls to gain—Z Souls that will well reward their pain. 5 Let thronging multitudes around, Hear from their lips the joyful sound; In humble strains thy grace implore, And feel thy new-ereating power. 6 Let sinners break their massy chains, Distressed souls forget their pains; Let light through distant realms be spread, And Zion rear her drooping head.

Whilst with a grateful heart we share
These pledges of our Saviour's care.
2 The Saviour, when to heaven he rose,
In splendid triumph o'er his foes,
Scatter'd his gifts on men below, s
And wide his royal bounties flow.
3 Hence sprang th' Apostle's honour’d name,
Sacred beyond heroic fame;
Hence dictates the prophetic sage,
And hence the evangelic page.
4. In lower forms to i. our eyes,
Pastors from hence and Teachers rise;
Who, though with feebler rays they shine,
Still mark a long extended line.
5 From Christ their varied gifts derive,
And, fed by him, their graces live;
Whilst guarded by his potent hand,
Amidst the rage of hell they stand.
6 So shall the bright succession run,
Through all the courses of the sun;
Whilst unborn churches, by their care,
Shall rise and flourish large and fair.
7 Jesus, our Lord, their hearts shall know
The spring whence all these blessings flow;
Pastors and people shout his praise,
Through the long round of endless days.

* Whenever the Hymns are used at the celebration of divine service, a certain portion or portions of the Psalms of David in metre shall also be surg.
