Pauper's RunDog Ear Publishing, 2006 - 460 Seiten This story begins and ends on the ninth floor of a prestigious corporate tower known as The Bank Centre, located on bankers' row of Brickell Avenue in Miami, Florida. On the second day of August in l982, a young executive at a big eight accounting firm sat musing on the ocean view that came as a bonus with his office decor. He had just driven to work from his comfortable, middle-class home in the suburbs, back to his white-collar world. He reflected for another moment in anticipation. It had been a month since he had entered the halls of Case, Walsh, Madison & Co., in this land of the all seeing Philistine. That alone was enough to give him a chill as he wondered whether anything or anyone had changed in his absence. His life path had been punctuated by a series of flashpoints, and in his mind he began to revisit those points in order to unravel his own destiny: How, he pondered, did he get here, from where? What was the Truth? In his reality, Truth is only a means to an end, and true tales often end before they ever begin, as he would see, by the end of this day. BRUCE MORRIS is a native of Florida, but lives in New Jersey with his wife and daughter. Pauper's Run is his first work of fiction. Though New Jersey is where he writes, Florida is the state that inspires him. He will always consider it his home and hold its people close to his heart. |
