TYTLER'S ELEMENTS

GENERAL

OF

HISTORY,

ANCIENT AND MODERN;

WITH CONSIDERABLE ADDITIONS TO THE AUTHOR'S TEXT, NUMEROUS NOTES,
AND A CONTINUATION TO THE REIGN OF QUEEN VICTORIA.

EDITED BY THE REV. BRANDON TURNER, M.A.

BESIDES expanding details where they appeared too brief, and insert-
ing numerous material facts throughout, the Editor has incorporated
fifteen new sections, to give greater continuity in the order of events,
and to supply an outline of Jewish History to the destruction of
Jerusalem by the Romans in 71 A.D.; and has brought down the
Work from the Revolution in 1688 to the Reign of Queen Victoria,
in a Continuation of 131 pages. These additions together are about
equal in extent to the original Work.

The above Work is also sold in Two Parts:-

PART I.

ELEMENTS OF ANCIENT HISTORY.

Price 2s. 6d., bound in cloth.

PART II.

ELEMENTS OF MEDIEVAL AND MODERN HISTORY.
Price 38. 6d., bound in cloth.

Notices of Turner's Edition of Tytler.

"The edition before us is superior to its predecessors, since it is not only more
accurate, but it contains nearly double the quantity of matter."-Athenæum.
"We prefer the additions to the original. Mr. Turner has bestowed more
thought and care on his work than professional avocations allowed Tytler to
afford. We are bound to state that we could not easily point out a work contain-
ing so much historical information in the same space as the present volume."—
Dr. Cook Taylor, in the League.

"A volume which we can confidently recommend, whether as a class-book for
youth, or as a work of general reference for persons of more advanced years."-
Edinburgh Witness.

THE CABINET HISTORY OF ENGLAND,

CIVIL, MILITARY, and ECCLESIASTICAL, from the Landing of Julius Cæsar till the Year 1846. 13 Vols., elegantly bound in cloth, £1, 68.

The want of a good complete History of England, from the earliest times to the present day, has been long acknowledged as a great deficiency in our national literature. Such a desideratum in our literature is supplied by the Cabinet History of England, which will be found complete in its details, in regard to furnishing the reader with a lucid and interesting account of the principal events in English history, from the invasion of the Romans, B.C. 55, to the repeal of the Corn Laws, in 1846. As far as possible, an impartial view has been taken of the various social, political, and religious questions, respecting which different opinions prevail; and great care has been taken to render the narrative interesting to the general reader, with a strict regard to historical accuracy.

In these two volumes the reader is presented with a concise History of the Church of Scotland, from the Reformation to the Revolution, written in a style pleasing to those of mature years, and yet specially adapted for the young.
