That God is light, and in him there is no darkness. If we shall say that we have society with him, and walk in darkness: we lie, and do not the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he also is in the light: we have society one toward another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we shall say that we have no sin, we seduce ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins: he is faithful and just, for to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all iniquity. 10 we shall say that we have not sinned: we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

7 My dearest, I write not a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you have heard. 8 Again a new commandment write I to you, which thing is true both in him and in you: because the darkness is that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother: is in the darkness even until now. 10 He that loveth his brother, abideth in the light, and scandal is not in him.

Scribo vobis, filioli, quoniam remittuntur vobis 12 peccata propter nomen ejus.
