They seem to me to be the most valuable works of the kind that I have ever seen in our language. F. WAYLAND, President of Brown University.

I am prepared, after a protracted and careful examination and comparison, to say, that in my judgment the Dictionary of Noah Webster possesses unrivalled merit. From its first publication I have used it as my standard in orthography and definition.

S. CHAPIN, President of Columbia College, D. C. As far as I am capable of judging, I consider Dr. Webster's Dictionary as a most valuable work, and eminently deserving of public patronage.

JOHN HENRY HOBART, Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal
Church in the State of New York.

"The recommendations of President Day and other distinguished gentlemen would be decisive with me, as to the merit and ability of Dr. Webster's works. I cheerfully concur in the opinion, that they form a very valuable addition to our lexicography, and deserve the patronage of the American public."

JOSEPH STORY, Judge of the Supreme Court of the United States, and Professor of Law in the University in Cambridge.

"I agree with Mr. Justice Story in the sentiments which he has expressed." WILLIAM CRANCH, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of the U. S. for the District of Columbia.

"DR. N. WEBSTER.-Sir: We have seen and examined your American Dictionary, and we think it unrivaled by any work of the kind in the English language. We also approve of your plan to publish a series of books for systematic instruction in the English language.""

WILBUR FISK, Principal of Wes. Academy, Wilbraham.
WILLIAM MAGOUN, Instructor in Languages, do.

"The subscribers, having examined Dr. Webster's Dictionaries, take pleasure in expressing their approbation of these works. They are so complete as to be a substitute for all other dictionaries of the language.

"THE ELEMENTARY SPELLING BOOK appears to be constructed on an improved plan, and to be better adapted for the purpose of instructing youth than any other work of the kind we have seen.

"We are gratified to know that the author has made a series of books for instructing our youth in their native language, in which the modern orthography is adopted and rendered uniform in classes of words, in which there are many discrepancies in other dictionaries and elementary works. Such a series of school books is precisely what our country has long wanted; and if introduced into all our seminaries of learning, the use of them would supersede the necessity of changes of books of this kind-changes always expensive to parents, and perplexing both to teachers and pupils. We therefore recommend those valuable publications of Dr. Webster to the general use of our fellowcitizens."
